Can Caries in Children Be Prevented?

It is important to know why caries occur. Tooth decay occurs rapidly due to lack of oral care and consumption of sugary / acidic foods. In addition to nutritional habits and oral care, the genetic background that determines the structure of the teeth is also important. We can change the eating habits and oral care routine. But we cannot change the genetic structure. Some people have a tendency to tooth decay, and some people to gum diseases. Some individuals have congenital systemic diseases. Oral and dental health of people who have systemic diseases, whose immune system works slowly, and who have to use corticosteroids regularly due to their allergic nature, require extra care.

In some individuals, caries formation is observed even if oral hygiene is fully fulfilled. Regular dentist checks should not be missed in these people. Preventive practices for the prevention of rapidly developing caries are of vital importance in maintaining oral/dental health.

Let’s answer the question in the title, yes, bruises can be prevented with the right approach and regular checkups.
We should brush our teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. We should clean between the teeth at least once a day with dental floss.
Even if there is no problem in your mouth, visit your dentist every 6 months.

Preventive applications that your doctor may recommend to you;

Fissure Sealant Application
Fluorine application

Fissure Sealant Application

Teeth have recesses and protrusions. The teeth of some individuals have more indentations and cavities. This complex structure needs to be carefully brushed every day. However, bruises starting from the inside of the recessed (fissure) structure cannot be prevented.

In order to prevent this situation, we apply fissure sealant to the teeth without caries. The filling-like liquid we apply inside the recesses protects the teeth against decay for many years. It would be useful to drop a small footnote here. Fissure sealant protects the tooth if the person does the right oral care at home. If a person neglects oral care, no treatment approach can protect the tooth from decay.

Fluorine Application

Fluoride is a mineral that strengthens our teeth against acid attacks caused by bacteria that strengthen the tooth structure. Brushing with fluoride toothpaste is necessary in daily oral care. In some people, we prefer to apply fluoride to support treatment, to prevent sensitivities, and to minimize the risk of caries formation. The fluoride gel/varnish application applied in the clinic protects our teeth for a while and almost creates a protective shield around the teeth. The protective effectiveness of fluoride gel, which is applied at regular intervals, especially in children, has been proven by hundreds of scientific studies.
