Pediatric Dentistry (Pedodontics)

Pediatric Dentistry / Pedodontics

Care begins as soon as the teeth start to come into the mouth. It is of great importance to be in contact with the dentist in order to provide correct care and to prevent congenital oral-dental problems. The bridge of trust established with the physician in infancy and childhood leaves positive effects in later years as well. For this reason, it is necessary to make the first dental examination without experiencing any disease or problem, and then to follow the six-month check-ups regularly.

Infancy Care

Oral care starts when the teeth rub into the mouth!

The existing teeth in the mouth should be wiped with a clean cloth. You can use finger brushes available in the market to do this comfortably. Teeth are considered to erupt at an average age of 6 months.

Tooth eruption may occur earlier in some children and later in others. Restlessness, fever, increase in mouth saliva, etc. during the eruption of teeth. may cause complaints. To reduce the discomfort, you can give your baby a thick-cut carrot, a chilled cucumber-like vegetable or a teether. It is important to choose natural foods preferably while giving additional food. It is inconvenient to give very sugary foods. If sugary foods are given, early period caries cannot be prevented. We call baby bottle caries the condition that occurs in the early period, especially the rapid decay of the front teeth.

What causes bottle rot?

Breast milk, which is the most important nutrient in infant nutrition, naturally contains sugar. If your baby sucks breast milk or a bottle before going to bed at night or during sleep, the ideal environment for tooth decay is created as a result of the accumulation of milk in the mouth.

How to prevent baby bottle rot?
The habit of sleeping with a bottle at night should be changed.
Your baby, who drinks milk at night, should be cleaned by giving water after milk.
Do not add sugar or honey to the milk provided.
Take care to give your child vegetables-fruit-based foods instead of sugary foods.
Regular dentist (pedodontist) check-ups are very important.

Do babies brush their teeth? How should the care be?
Toothpaste and toothbrushes for 0-3 years are available in pharmacies. You can use the content of toothpaste specially prepared for babies with peace of mind. You can provide more effective cleaning with the use of these products.
You can find ways to make tooth brushing a game and love it. It is necessary to brush twice a day. Simply brushing with water does not help prevent cavities.

Childhood Care

How should dental care for children be?
Special children’s toothpastes and soft toothbrushes should be used for children. Brushing twice a day is very important.
There are 20 milk teeth. It is completely in the mouth between the ages of 2.5 and 3 years. Especially after the milk molars have erupted into the mouth, effective brushing of the back areas is of great importance. Children may not be able to brush effectively between the ages of 3-6. Parents may need to assist in brushing the hindquarters. Our recommendation is to brush once a day under the control of the mother or father.

The most common problem in children is the rapidly developing interface caries. In order to prevent interface caries, it is necessary to make a habit of cleaning the interface from an early age. There are cartoon-character dental floss produced for children’s interface cleaning.

Again, under the control of parents, interface cleaning should be done once a day.
