Dental Implant/Implantology

We call the titanium screws placed in the jawbone in case of missing teeth as implants. With today’s technology, knowledge and experience, it is possible to compensate for the lack of teeth.

Why should I choose implant application?

It is the most protective application that can be done in the absence of teeth. The alternative to the implant is usually porcelain bridge application or removable dentures. Our treatment preference varies from case to case, and we make implant planning independent of the existing teeth in the mouth. The comfort offered by implants is indisputably very good, especially in cases of total edentulism.

Can an implant be applied in every missing tooth?

The amount of bone in the area where we will place the implant is very important. In some cases, there are difficulties in placing the implant. For example, in regions where the bone is low, we may encounter regions where it is close to anatomical formations. These situations do not prevent implantation. It just requires more care as a procedure.

Why is implant treatment expensive?

Implant production and material is a costly process. Generally, imported products are used. In this case, the cost increases. However, thanks to the comfortable use of implants in the long term, these costs bring benefits. Today, the most logical treatment to be applied in the absence of teeth is implant treatment.

Can implants be applied to everyone?

It is risky to apply implants in individuals who smoke excessively, do not attach importance to oral hygiene or have uncontrolled diabetes. Apart from these, we talk in detail about the systemic condition of our patients before the implant application.

How many years will I be able to use the applied implant?

The most critical period after implantation is the first five years. Implants that remain in place for five years are likely to remain in the mouth for life. For this reason, we invite patients to whom we have implanted for examination in the first year, every 3 months, and in the following 6-month routine controls. If any problem is detected during routine controls, we treat it.

The most common gingival diseases that we encounter in implant applications do not cause destruction if detected and treated at the initial stage. Otherwise, in advanced gingival problems, the bone support around the implant decreases and the implant is lost. For these reasons, routine controls are very important in terms of prolonging the life of the implant.

Is implantation a painful procedure?

The implant operation is performed with local anesthesia and no pain is felt during the operation. If you use the prescribed medications and mouthwash after the operation, the pain can be controlled. There is no severe pain after the operation. In addition, if you apply the cold compress given to you, the swelling that will occur on the face will be at a minimum level.

What should be considered after having an implant?

Hot food and drinks should be avoided for the first 24 hours. Oral hygiene is essential. Existing teeth in the mouth should be brushed gently. It is not recommended to use mouthwash for the first 48 hours. Oral hygiene is very important in mouths with implants. Daily brushing and flossing should not be interrupted. Apart from these, routine controls should not be neglected, and dental calculus should be cleaned in periods that your doctor deems necessary.

When can my teeth be made after the implant is applied?

We expect a minimum of 2.5 – 3 months after the implant is placed. This period increases to 6 months if ‘sinus lifting’ is applied on the upper jaw. After the implant is placed, if possible, no load should be placed on the implant. In some cases, we can apply temporary prostheses to aid in aesthetics and speech. The purpose of making these prostheses is that the person does not remain toothless during the healing process and does not have problems in his daily life.
